I'm spreading myself too thin

So I've been working on my fiction and my photography lately.  I don't know why the two go hand in hand, but they seem to.  When I'm creative at one, it bumps my creativity in the other.  But that means that I've been neglecting a few other blogs.  So, what I'm going to try for a little while is blending the blogs together.  Hopefully you'll like it.  But if you don't, let me know, and I may change it back.

I'm going to be transitioning to this blog from my WordPress hosted Making Our Dream Life Happen blog.  There's a lot of posts there, so it'll be up for quite a while longer, but the majority of new posts will be made here.

Since part of my dream life includes earning money from my photography and my non-fiction writing, I will be combining those blogs here.  Fiction will continue to have it's own site.  I will (as always) label my posts, so you'll be able to search my photography by clicking on the label photography.  If you're only interested in homeschooling, then click that tab.  And so on and so on.  I hope it makes it easier to find something specific, while allowing me to have a single place to post all of these things.

SoFoBoMo... what?!?

Today I found SoFoBoMo.  It's a relation to NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), which I participated in and won this year.  But I just found SoFoBoMo today.  It's Solo Photo Book Month, has a history of hazy dates, or two months in which to take the 31 day challenge.  I'm going to participate this coming year (2011), and if you're interested in photography, I hope you do, too.  I've also been asked to be considered as the lead Social Network Volunteer, because I <3 social networking.  :)  I'm waiting to hear back on that, and will let you know if that winds up being something I do.

This is intended mostly be a collection of my photography, and critiques of it, if I am lucky enough to get feedback.  I also plan to post contests that I find, a blogroll of other photographers that I think you should visit, reviews of photography books that I read, tips and tricks that I learn (and where I learned them from), and pretty much whatever else comes to mind.  This is really just a spot for my photography, to watch how I grow as a photographer, and to hopefully help other budding photographers.

New event photography website

I've been focused on my writing lately, but I also wanted to set up a site for my photography.  I have a site where you can order prints, http://eventsbykim.photoreflect.com, but I'm still in the setting it up stage.  The name may change, once I find what's right for me.  But in the meantime, you can purchase larger prints there, for framing.

If you do, let me know!  Better yet, send me a photo of your print displayed!!

What we've been up to

So I've got a new post about what we've been up to at the "real" Making Our Dream Life Happen blog.  Just a reminder that all you have to do is click the post title and it'll take you to the blog post, or you can click the link above.

But I've also been seriously considering moving it on over here to Blogger, too.  So hopefully soon, I'll have more and more on this blog.  I'll keep the one over at WP for my old posts, so if you find one you want to read, you'll click on the link title and be headed there again.  But I may start putting my new posts on here.  I'll make a decision in the next couple of weeks, and let you guys know.

In the meantime, please feel free to head on over to Making Our Dream Life Happen, and check out what we've been up to!

Sunset through the trees

We were at the lake, and the sunset through the trees caught me.  I love the way that it just lit up the treeline across the lake.

Fundraising Request - VCA

My 13 year old (step)son is playing basketball for the first time this year with our local homeschool athletic association, Victoria Cobra Athletics.  He's very excited about it, and has been working hard on his fundraising.  Would you please take a moment to check out my post over at the main blog by clicking here or on the title of this post, and see if you can help, even if it's just passing the original post along to your readers/friends?  We only have a few days left...

Thanks for your help!!  Hope everyone's having a wonderful November!

Newest projects

If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, then you already know a few things about me.

First and foremost, you probably need to know that I'm in love with Barbara Sher's books.  I just found them a few short months ago, and I've devoured them.  :)

If you've followed her books at all, especially I Could Do Anything If I Only Knew What It Was, and Refuse to Choose, I'm what's known as a Scanner.  That means that I don't know how to focus on one thing at a time (ha!  But it's true!).  Knowing that, you'll understand that at any given moment, I have a ton of projects going on.  If I'm not posting in one place, then you'll find me working on my newest project.

That newest projects are this website, my fiction website, as well as The WAHM Experiment, and it's sister site, The WAHM Experiment - Adult Plans (18 and older on this site only, as they are "adult" in nature).  These are new non-fiction blogs that I've started to help people wanting to work at home decode the sales pitch from the real opportunity, and know what they're getting into before they invest the time/money.  I am big on saying that the majority of these business opportunities are not scams.  They're just made for a certain type of person.  I've spent the last twenty years attempting to work from home, and I've joined a number of sites and party plans, only to find out later that it's not a good fit for me.  I'm hoping to save my readers from making the same mistake and investing time and money into starting businesses by knowing if the opportunity is right for them before they make that investment.  If you're interested in learning more, please click on the links above.  If you're already a consultant for a party plan or otherwise earn a portion of your income by working at home, leave me a comment on the appropriate website, and I'll schedule a time to interview you.

You'll find links to my other blogs/websites on my About Me page.

Just a quick note...

I'm separating this website out for my non-fiction.  At the suggestion of several instructors at the writing conference, my fiction will be written under a pen name.  If you'd like to read my fiction, email me at

for my new name & website.  :)

I will continue posting my non-fiction here so that it will remain an active site with links to non-fiction.  :)

In the meantime, please feel free to check out:

MuseItUp Conference

Today marks the start of my first ever writing conference!!!!  I'm so excited about it, and a little overwhelmed.

It's FREE and it's online (so I didn't have to go anywhere)!  My husband is currently working out of town, and I broke my toe yesterday, so the free and online couldn't be better.  :)

If you're wanting to see where I write currently, please take a look at Making Our Dream Life Happen. This blog is a chronicle of my family's steps to become as fully self-sufficient as possible, our dreams of being nomadic gypsies, and homeschooling our kiddos.  Inked in the South is my tattoo review and all things tattoo related website (my guilty pleasure... LOL).  I'll link up a few others soon, but for today, it's back to my conference.

If you're attending, please leave me a comment with your username, so I can friend you... maybe we can share tips?  :)

The Real blog for Making Our Dream Life

I started this blog when I was experimenting with both blogger and wordpress.  I decided on Wordpress for this particular blog, but BlogFrog doesn't like Wordpress.com blogs... so this is basically a temporary redirect until I decide whether to bring the blog back from Wordpress.com, or to go with a Wordpress.org blog.  :D

So, for now, please click here (or above) to be taken to:

Sorry for the work around.  I'll figure out a better way as soon as I can.

First Post

This is my first post on this blog.  We are still in the "dreaming" stage.  Looking at RVs now to get an idea of what will work best for us in the beginning, while we are getting our bearings.

My husband hasn't really spent any large amounts of time in RVs.  I have, growing up where we went everywhere in an RV... I thought hotels were a novelty, and didn't take a plane ride until I was 13.  :D  But I was also more traveled than most of my friends.  To this date, I believe there are only 5 states in the continental US that I haven't been to.  My plan is to make it to those 5 and the other 43, plus at least Alaska and Canada... perhaps Mexico, too.  I haven't figured out how I could get an RV to Hawaii at a reasonable price... :P  But I may one day figure that out, too.

We had a pop-up for a short amount of time, so we have a little of the basics down.  Now on to a self-contained vehicle that will allow us to learn all the fun stuff about holding tanks and whatnot.  :D

Our budget will be small, so we hope to find a bumper pull (would LOVE the toy hauler, but looks like that's out of our budget).  We're also looking at motorhomes, but the 411 from someone who has full-timed in an RV is that we don't want a motorhome in our price range... :D  So unless we happen upon something we just can't pass up (doubtful, but the possibility is always there), we'll be looking at a bumper pull.  :D
